Who We Are
Locomotive Maintenance Services was set up in Late Summer/Early Autumn 2007 by David T Wright, initially as a labour-only contract service, providing a steam fitting service in the heritage railway market. Since the business has been set up, the market for LMS has grown and as such there are now more contract projects being undertaken than just labour-only services. In 2009 LMS provided the mainline back-up for two major players in the mainline steam scene, with Fitness to Run exams, washouts and standard running maintenance being undertaken.
David T Wright (Proprietor)
David first started volunteering at Tanfield Railway, nr Newcastle and when age allowed started at his first love, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and then progressed to being a fireman at the NYMR. Whilst volunteering at the NYMR David developed his interest in the mechanical side of loco maintenance and went on to work for Steam Powered Services based at Grosmont. David then moved to the National Railway Museum, York to serve his Steam Engineering Apprenticeship which was completed in partnership with York College. Following completion of his apprenticeship and having worked on numerous projects at the NRM, David was successful in being appointed as Steam Loco Foreman at the West Somerset Railway dealing with the running maintenance of steam locos at the WSR, Minehead. During this time LMS was formed, and as they say......”that was the start of that!”
